Traveling in Spain

By air

The majority of Spanish airports have multiple non-stop flights, connecting you with the world’s most important cities. It is also very easy and cheap to fly from one Spanish airport to another. The most popular airports are:

  • Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD)

  • Barcelona Airport (BCN)

  • Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI)

  • Malaga Airport (AGP)

Pamplona itself has an airport located in the neighborhood of Noáin. Iberia Regional (Air Nostrum) operates 5 flights a day to and from Madrid. The only other destination available to the airport is a Vueling service to Barcelona, which has an unfrequent schedule. Apart from the one in Noáin, the two nearest airports are in Bilbao and Zaragoza. Bilbao is home to the largest airport in Northern Spain. It boasts flights to nearly every EU member nation. Zaragoza has more low-cost airlines serving limited, usually smaller, destinations.

If you would like to go on Erasmus to this magnificent city, you have two main options to get here:

  • Take the plane form your home country to either Bilbao or Zaragoza. Bilbao has connections to Pamplona via a 2 hour bus provided by La Burundesa or the new blablacar. Pamplona is connected with Zaragoza with a Renfe train service, the bus, and blablacar. Don’t forget to make a reservation!

  • Fly in from your home country to Madrid-Barajas and transfer to either another flight, a train, or even a bus to Pamplona.

You can find a lot of services online which help you find the cheapest flights from all around the world to Spain. Here are some examples:

If you want some more information about airlines, discounts, check-in, safety regulations, and baggage allowance you can always go to the website of the AENA. AENA (also ENAIRE) is Spanish state-owned company entrusted with the management and the development of airports in Spain as well as some in Latin America, the United States, Great Britain and Sweden.

By train

Spain is linked by the international rail network to Portugal, France, Switzerland and Italy. Besides this, you also have the AVE high-speed train that runs between France and Spain. Here's a table with a selection of rail services to Spain:
